International Accreditation
CEA accredits English language programs and independent English language schools outside the United States in a variety of settings, including programs within academic departments at colleges or universities, foundation or preparatory year programs within or affiliated with colleges or universities, independent private language schools, or binational centers. Such programs may be governed by academic institutions, individual proprietors, governing boards, or other corporate organizational structures. The process of accreditation is the same. The self-study report, onsite review, and final accreditation decisions are all based on the CEA Standards for English Language Programs and Institutions.
Policies and procedures for accreditation of non-U.S. sites parallel those developed for the U.S., with a consideration for cultural differences in the international setting. Most accreditation fees are the same, with the exception of the site visit fee, which is based on travel expenses for international locations. Note that CEA does not accredit degree programs.
